What We Do (Updated: 02 Jul 2010)

Sadly, the Southern states have not been as proactive as the New England states in educating on spay/neuter and pet licensing laws which has caused the pet overpopulation in the South to remain disturbingly out of control while the overpopulation in New England is seemingly under control.

Our first Road Dogs transports consisted of transporting 40+ puppies per trip in a rental van to a no-kill animal shelter in Massachusetts. We still transport to that shelter but have we ever grown since those first few trips!! After a couple of trips in the rental van, we purchased a truck and 16' enclosed trailer. In less than a year, we outgrew the 16' trailer and graduated to our current state of the art and top of the line 36' trailer of which we are very proud!

The majority of each Road Dogs trip is made up of pups and dogs directly from Companion Pet Rescue but we also transport for other Southern rescues and many New England rescues and shelters. Since our first transport in April, 2007, we have safely transported more than 5000 dogs, pups and even a few cats!!

Each pet travels in their own USDA approved plastic pet carrier with an attached water pail. They are walked and cleaned during the trip, and at each stop, one of our drivers checks on each pet's cleanliness and comfort. The pets are fed small amounts during the trip to satisfy hunger and to prevent motion sickness.
